These include the best oral presentation of a paper and the best poster display at the national conference to candidates less than 35 years of age. Awards are made on the basis of the most effective communication of the presenter's work to a scientific audience at each National Soils Conference.

Conditions of the Award

1. Awards will be made on the basis of the most effective communication of the presenter’s work to a scientific audience at each National Soils Conference:
    1.1. Most meritorious oral presentation given by a scientist under 35 years of age, consisting of a certificate and a sum of money determined by Federal Council from time to time.
    1.2. Most meritorious poster presentation given by a scientist under 35 years of age; consisting of a certificate and a sum of money determined by Federal Council from time to time.
     1.3. Most meritorious oral presentation given by a scientist over 35 years of age; consisting of a certificate only.
     1.4. Most meritorious poster presentation given by a scientist over 35 years of age; consisting of a certificate only.
     1.5. The Johan Bouma Award for the best oral presentation integrating ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ sciences, consisting of a framed photo of Professor Johan Bouma holding the inaugural (2005) ‘soil flower’ with an appropriate inscription.
2. Federal Council funds will be provided for the Awards and Certificates.
3. The work presented may be under joint authorship but the presenter must be the senior author. Abstracts presented to the National Soils Conference should indicate whether the presenter is eligible for an Award.
4. The Awarding Committee will be chaired by a member of the Conference Organising Committee, with representation from each Branch of the Society.
5. The Awarding Committee will meet at the start of the Conference to ensure that at least two members of the Awarding Committee attend each oral and poster presentation.
6. The Awards will be presented by the Federal President, Conference Convenor, or Chair of the Conference Awards Committee.
