Welcome to the website of the Australian Society of Soil Science Inc.

If you are involved professionally in any aspect of soil science, or simply have a keen interest in soil and soil science, you may apply for membership to the Society.

The primary benefit of joining our Society is belonging to a national and international network of soil scientists. The society also tries to provide tangible benfits to members, including:

Soil Science in Australia - an occasional publication in magazine format providing members with a review of soil science in Australia

Profile - the federal newsletter for members produced on a quarterly basis providing information on upcoming events, branch and federal meetings, member news and feature articles on soil related topics

Soil Crumbs - a monthly e-bulletin emailed to members containing useful updates and alerts on matters of interest to ASSSI members including employment opportunities

Australian Soils Calendar - printed and posted to all members using soil images submitted by members as either soil art or landscape images

National Soils Conference - a bi-annual conference organised by Federal Council and hosted by a branch. Every second conference is run jointly with the New Zealand Society of Soil Science Inc.  The next conference will be held in Victoria in 2014.

International Union of Soil Science membership - ordinary and student members of the Australian Society of Soil Science Inc automatically have membership of the IUSS.  Retired members may chose to subscribe. The IUSS provides members with an opportunity to participate in international soil science activities and via the IUSS Alert, keep up-to-date with world science news

Certified Professional Soil Scientist accreditation - members of the society may apply for and maintain accreditation as a Certified Professional Soil Scientist.  This is the professional arm of the Society and requires members to meet the Standards for Professionals in Soil Science

Medals and Awards in Soil Science - each year the Society makes a number of prestigious awards to members who have excelled in different aspects of soil science.  In addition, awards are made for the best presentations and posters at the National Soils Conference and travel grants may be made available to student members of the Society to attend these conferences.  ASSSI also maintains and honorary life membership scheme for those members who have made outstanding contributions to the Society and to the discipline of soil science.  Awards can also be made by Branches to acknowledge service by members.
