Our Association
Soil Science Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that serves as the peak body for soil scientists across Australia, and seeks to advance soil science in the professional, academic and technical fields. It is a member of the International Union of Soil Sciences.
Members work in government departments, research organisations, universities and private enterprise and reside across Australia and overseas. Members belong to one of seven Branches, each of which organises a separate program of activities annually. The Federal Council coordinates and oversees this federation of branches.
If you are involved professionally in any aspect of soil science, or simply have a keen interest in soil and soil science, you may apply for membership to the Society. Certified Professional Soil Scientist accreditation, CPSS, is available to suitably qualified and experienced members of the Society.

Research positions ADDRESSING KEY ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
We are seeking to appoint energetic, highly motivated academics to positions from Lecturer to Professor in the University’s new Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment.These positions will build upon an impressive range of research activities and take advantage of the $40 million facilities for climate change research include a next generation sequencing facility, PC2 laboratories and a Free Air CO2 Enrichment facility located in native Australian woodland.
This is an exciting opportunity to participate in the Institute’s interdisciplinary research programs focusing on environmental genomics, soil, plant and animal science, and ecosystem function and modelling. Applicants should have expertise in one or more of the Institute’s areas of research.Preference will be given to those with expertise in one or more of the following:
·Bioinformatics
·Invertebrate biology including soil fauna
·Water movement in soil and plants
·Plant molecular biology
·Plant/animal interactions
·Soil/plant mineral nutrition
·Biodiversity and invasive species
·Population genetics
·Landscape scale hydrology/ecohydrology modelling
·Ecosystem/atmosphere modelling
