Soils in Schools

The Soils in Schools program started in 2015, the year the United Nations declared International Year of Soils.

Our vision is to educate school children on the relevance and importance of soils and to encourage a wider interest in our soil resources.

We have developed soil science educational materials specifically to meet Australian F-10 curriculum requirements. The teacher guides provide interesting stories and activities that can be added into teaching schedules.

Soil science is a fascinating and diverse field, which provides students with many interesting learning experiences about the way we live and work today. Soil science is relevant to many disciplines, both within the scientific sectors and beyond. Soil is linked to our food, our history, our geography and to the broader sciences (physics, chemistry, forensics, biology, etc.). By highlighting these cross-discipline links in educational material, we emphasise the importance of soil to everyday life and share our enthusiasm for soil.
